You want to find a cat shelter/rescue in your area.

Maybe you’ve just never become familiar with the organizations near you, and are looking to change that for one reason or another. Or perhaps you’re not sure how many exist. Maybe you’ve recently moved to the area and it’s all completely new.

Whether you’re looking for the website or wish to visit the actual physical location, this is where you can start.

Reasons to find a cat shelter/rescue

You want to:

  • Adopt a cat!!
  • Volunteer your time
  • Donate supplies (food, treats, toys, litter, etc.)
  • Donate money
  • You know of a cat that needs to find a forever home
  • You’re looking for a missing cat

My simple research process

I looked at several websites. And I used where I live as the test area because I’m familiar with the shelters/rescues here (there are several). I found that this website by far had the most accurate list of organizations in my area, and therefore judged it to be the best.

Best website to find a list of cat shelters/rescues in your area

Petfinder.com

Instructions:

  • Go to Petfinder.com (www.petfinder.com/adopt-or-get-involved/)
  • Scroll part way down the page until finding (on the right side of the page) a box “Find Pet-Adoption Groups”
  • In the “Location” box type the city, state, or zip code you want to search
  • NOTE: this will generate a list of all animal shelters/rescues, and they may not all have cats
  • By clicking on the name of the organization, it will take you to a page about them that shows:
    contact information (address, email, phone number)
    location map
    mission
    adoption policy
    hours
    link to their website
    (NOTE: not every organization has all of this information)
  • From here you can click on their website link to navigate to it and learn details about a particular shelter/rescue
